eBay glitches more than usual in June 2023

eBay’s list of outages and other issues were higher than usual in June, some of them undoubtedly caused by their intended changes to search results, View Item page and Promoted Listing placements.

This one does seem to have been resolved, but for products where a small detail is very important, the inability to see tiny details will have impacted on sales.

  • A few days later, on June 12th, eBay sellers reported intermittent problems printing shipping labels through the platform. While many sellers said they received messages shifting the blame to USPS “experiencing issues”, there are reports that UPS and FedEx labels are also failing and even reports from the UK, indicating this may be a worldwide eBay issue not specific to any particular carrier.
  • In mid-June, search results were sometimes showing nothing available:

This issue also caused stores to show no items in store view and a banner that says they are “sold out” with a link to other stores the buyer might be interested in.

The only consolation is that this error affected some very big brands, not just smaller ones:

We’ve seen this before, intermittently, and it’s a pretty big problem. If your sales were very low on June 14th/15th, that is probably why. This isn’t the first time this complete breakdown of basic search functionality has occurred – just in the last 6 months there have been at least two other major sitewide outages that caused zero results to be shown for any searches.
